A fellowship-trained traumatologist, Dr. Thompson became an orthopedic surgeon after pursuing a career in emergency medicine as a paramedic. He works with patients at the Hughston Clinic Trauma Division at Sanford, specializing in orthopedic trauma.

Academically, Dr. Thompson received his certification in paramedic medicine from the Itawamba Community College in Fulton, Mississippi. He continued his education by graduating from University of Mississippi with a degree in biology. He then went on to earn his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree at Lincoln Memorial University, DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine, and finished his internship at Largo Medical Center and his residency in orthopedic surgery at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.
After his internship, he worked with orthopedic surgeons in the trauma service at Johnson Medical Center, fulfilling his desire to treat polytrauma patients. In 2018, he completed his fellowship in orthopedic trauma at the Hughston Foundation.
A member of the American Osteopathic Association, the doctor is board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery (AOBOS). The AOBOS is an organization that provides board certification to qualified Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine who specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of disorders of the musculoskeletal system.
