Get to know Oncologist Dr. Salim Contractor, who serves patients in Hudson, New York.

Dr. Contractor, a highly trained oncologist, provides diagnostic and treatment services for patients suffering from all types of cancer. He sees patients at Hudson Cancer Center, which is a part of New York Oncology Hematology.

Alongside his clinical role, Dr. Contractor serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Albany Medical College. He is also a member of the American Medical Association and the American Society of Hematology.

The doctor’s acclaimed career in medicine began after he earned his medical degree from the Grant Medical College of Bombay University in India in 1983. Upon relocating to the United States, he went on to complete his residency in internal medicine at Catholic Medical Center.

With a desire to further his training, he performed a fellowship in hematology at NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island, a fellowship in hematology and oncology at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, and a fellowship in oncology at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City.

Specializing in PET/CT imaging, Dr. Contractor is board-certified in internal medicine and medical oncology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. 

Oncology is a branch of medicine that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. A medical professional who practices oncology is an oncologist. An oncologist is a doctor who treats cancer and provides medical care for a person diagnosed with cancer. They lead a cancer treatment team of various healthcare professionals, treat patients with radiation therapy, coordinate treatment plans and prescribe various types of treatment, including chemotherapy and immunotherapy, as well as assist patients with pain management.

Throughout his fruitful academic career, Dr. Contractor has been honored with several awards and recognitions, including Best Medical Intern—St. John’s Medical Center/Catholic Medical Center; First Prize for Academic Excellence—Bombay Scottish Junior College; All India Athletic Team—Grant Medical College; and Individual Athletic Championship, Track & Field—Grant Medical College.

Happily married with three children, he enjoys reading, participating in sports, and traveling. He speaks several Indian languages including Hindi, Urdo, and Jugrati.
