Get to know Obesity Medicine Physician Dr. Theresa Nguyen Garza, who serves the population of Texas. Dr. Garza completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Texas at Austin where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology in 1996. Furthering her education she then graduated with a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree from the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth in 2001. After obtaining her doctorate degree she then completed her internship and family medicine residency with the Methodist Health System. Dr. Garza holds dual certification from the American Board of Family Medicine and the American Board of Obesity Medicine. She is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, Obesity Medicine Association (formerly American Society of Bariatric Physicians), Dallas County Medical Society, Texas Medical Association, Obesity Action Coalition, and the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine. Dr. Garza currently owns and practices at Weight Management Medical Associates, where her program focuses on teaching healthy behavior modifications, improving nutrition, implementing practical exercise/activity, and using FDA-approved weight loss medications when necessary or approved. Her philosophy centers around eating food of good quality, in moderation, and not depriving yourself. She also believes in regular visits to encourage patients on weight progress, improve accountability, monitor medications, and make necessary modifications in a patient’s ever-changing lifestyle.
