Get to know Plastic Surgeon Dr. Grady B. Core, who serves patients in Birmingham, Alabama.

Dr. Core is widely recognized in the field of plastic surgery as one of the inventors of endoscopic (minimally invasive) plastic surgery. He is the Founder of Core Plastic Surgery, having performed thousands of procedures on people living in and around Birmingham and Mountain Brook, Alabama.

With a motto “When Results Matter”, his practice is equipped with cutting-edge expertise in plastic surgery along with surgical and skin care suites to promote a relaxing environment. It is also outfitted with a team of professionals committed to excellence and patient care.

Originally from Arkansas, Dr. Core attended undergraduate school at the University of Arkansas and later medical school at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. He completed full training in general surgery at Flushing Hospital Medical Center, an affiliate of Einstein University in New York City, New York.

As a practicing general surgeon, he was a member of the teaching faculty at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma until later developing an interest in plastic surgery.

Furthering his education, Dr. Core trained in plastic surgery at the world renowned Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota and subsequently came to Birmingham where he was a Clinical Instructor in Plastic Surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He later served as Chief of the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans until returning in 1996 to make Birmingham his permanent home. 

The doctor’s long training and experience give him a broad range of expertise in the field of aesthetic surgery. He has extensive experience in plastic surgery of the face and nose, aesthetic breast surgery, and body contouring as well as cosmetic laser surgery. He has been certified by both the American Board of Surgery as well as the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

Selected for Best Doctors in the US: Southeast Region, and in Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Dr. Core is a member of the American Association of Plastic Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons (Fellow), the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Southeastern Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery, the Medical Association of the State of Alabama, and the Priestley Society of Mayo Clinic Alumnae in Surgery.

Specializing in aesthetic procedures of the face and body, Dr. Core is known throughout the world for original contributions in all of these areas. He was a co-inventor of the endoscopic brow lift along with Dr. Luis Vasconez and also developed other endoscopic applications in the face, breast, and abdomen. He is also the inventor of the lower eyelid mini-lift called the lateral access lower lid lift, as well as played a significant role in establishing ultrasonic liposuction in the U.S. 

While his primary interest is cosmetic surgery of face, nose and breasts, he also enjoys helping patients by doing facial reconstruction as well as breast reconstruction. He has numerous articles in plastic surgery literature and is a regular presenter and teacher at the plastic surgery meetings around the world. 

Plastic surgery is a surgical specialty involving the restoration, reconstruction, or alteration of the human body. It can be divided into two main categories – reconstructive surgery and cosmetic surgery. A plastic surgeon’s primary responsibility is performing surgical and non-surgical procedures, and they use a variety of reparative and reconstructive techniques to get the job done. 

At the ASAPS meeting in New York (April 2018), Dr. Core was presented with the Jerome R. Klingbeil Award for Teaching Excellence. This award is conferred upon Teaching Course instructors who have donated their time and expertise to furnish significant and long-term contributions to the Society and the specialty.

Happily married, Dr. Core lives with his wife, Heidi, and three sons in Vestavia.
