Academically, Dr. Smith graduated with honors from Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, Canada, and completed her Medical Degree and orthopedic surgery residency at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. She then completed two hand and upper extremity fellowships, one at the University of British Columbia, and the second at the Institut Kaplan in Barcelona, Spain.  

Following her training, Dr. Smith joined the Vancouver Bone and Joint Clinic at St. Paul’s Hospital and the Department of Orthopedics at the University of British Columbia as a Clinical Associate Professor. Her clinical practice involved treating complex hand, wrist, and elbow disorders in an academic setting while teaching medical students, orthopedic surgery residents, and upper extremity fellows.

In 2002, Dr. Smith began her practice in Vancouver, Canada. Throughout the last decade, she has played a dynamic role in the British Columbia Orthopedic community. Notably, she held the position of President within the British Columbia Orthopedic Association and served as an executive member of the Society of Specialist Physicians and Surgeons of the British Columbia Medical Association.

Locally, Dr. Smith contributed significantly to St. Paul’s Hospital, participating in the Medical Advisory Committee and holding an executive position within the Medical Staff. She also actively engaged in curriculum development for medical school and orthopedic surgery residency programs at the university level.

Orthopedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic surgeons use both surgical and non-surgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.

Outside of work, Dr. Smith enjoys many outdoor sports, including biking, running, and boating. She is passionate about ice hockey, both as a player and fan.
