Dr. Mason is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with Newport Orthopedics, a Lifespan Physician Group practice. He welcomes the opportunity to become part of, and hopefully make a difference in, a close-knit community with a worldwide reputation for being hospitable, social, and caring.

“My clinical practice is centered around the replacement of hips, knees and shoulders. In addition to performing these procedures, I have designed and participated in the design team on many medical devices and joint replacement implants commonly in use today” expressed Dr. Mason.

Offering life-changing results, his areas of expertise include orthopedic surgery,  hip replacement, knee replacement, joint replacement, and reconstructive surgery. 

Born and raised on Staten Island, New York, Dr. Mason obtained his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1987. He then went on to perform his internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at UPMC Pinnacle Community Osteopathic. Thereafter, he continued his subspecialty fellowship training at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, affiliates of Harvard Medical School.

As a testament to his success, the doctor is board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery (AOBOS). The AOBOS is an organization that provides board certification to qualified Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine who specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of disorders of the musculoskeletal system.

Passionate about being a part of the field of orthopedic surgery, Dr. Mason has designed and been involved in the development of multiple artificial joints. He has more than 20 years of experience in joint replacement and reconstructive surgery, most recently at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston.

Licensed to practice medicine in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, he is affiliated with New England Baptist Hospital and Newport Hospital.

Orthopedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system.
