Get to know Dentist Dr. Mailin Mimi Lai, who serves patients in New York City, New York.

Dentist Dr. Lai has been serving the New York area since 1988, steadily building her practice by earning her patients’ trust with her professionalism and attention to detail. At Downtown Dental NYC, she and her staff have been helping the community with services ranging from complex oral problems to routine check-ups.

The team of professionals has the experience and skill set to help each patient receive the best dental care possible. They remain focused through continuing education courses given by the New York County Dental Society, the American Dental Association, and many other dental specialist societies. In addition to routine dental care, they are trained in the latest techniques to treat dental diseases, perform non-surgical periodontal care, and discuss treatment plans with patients.

Born in Yangon, Burma, Dr. Lai immigrated to the United States in 1977. She attended Hunter College in New York City, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in chemistry with a minor in mathematics. Following graduation, she attended New York University College of Dentistry, where she earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree.

Dentistry, also known as Dental and Oral Medicine, is a branch of medicine that consists of the study, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases, disorders, and conditions of the oral cavity. Dentists diagnose and treat dental issues and help patients develop better oral hygiene regimens. They clean teeth, correct bite issues, perform surgeries and extractions, and perform other duties to ensure that the teeth and mouth are healthy.

Seeing as how Dr. Lai strongly believes that prevention is the key to control caries and periodontal disease, she recommends getting teeth cleaning every six months. In order to stay up to date in her field, she remains a member of the American Dental Association and the Chinese American Dental Association.
