Get to know Urologist Dr. Sagar M. Phatak, who serves patients in Middlebury, Connecticut. 

Being a board-certified urologist, Dr. Phatak’s interests include urologic oncology, urologic stone disease, pediatric urology, and male infertility. He is in practice with Urology Specialists, P.C., an affiliate of Connecticut Clinical Research Center and Connecticut Center for Continence, which he joined in 2007. 

“Urology Specialists have been providing quality urological services to New Haven County for more than 60 years. This practice is staffed with six urologists and a nurse practitioner who is also the continence promotion specialist. A 2001 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Dr. Phatak went on to complete his residency in both general surgery and urology at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He then completed a six-month research fellowship with the National Cancer Institute – University of Pennsylvania Urologic Oncology Branch, studying new imaging techniques in prostate cancer detection. Much of this work was presented at the 2004 National American Urology Association meeting in San Francisco. 

The doctor is board-certified in urology by the American Board of Urology, whose mission is to act for the benefit of the public by establishing and maintaining standards of certification for urologists, as well as to work with certified urologists to achieve lifelong learning to ensure the delivery of high quality, safe, and ethical urologic care. In addition, he has published literature on newer techniques in treating interstitial cystitis.

Urology, also known as genitourinary surgery, is the branch of medicine that focuses on surgical and medical diseases of the male and female urinary-tract system and the male reproductive organs. Urologists specialize in diseases of the urinary tract and the male reproductive system. Patients may be referred to a urologist if their physician suspects they may need treatment for a condition relating to the bladder, urethra, ureters, kidneys, and adrenal glands.
