He performs mental health assessment, helps patients manage long-term mental health conditions, offers medical treatment and therapy for a wide variety of psychological disorders, provides patient and parent education, and offers referrals to other medical specialists as needed.

Back in the early days of his academic career, he graduated with his medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Medicine in 1964. He then went on to perform his internship at the said educational venue in 1965, followed by his residency in psychiatry at Hartford Hospital in 1966. He also performed an additional residency in psychiatry at Agnews State Hospital in 1968.

A member of the American Psychiatric Association, Dr. Young III is board-certified in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to serving the professions of psychiatry and neurology.
