A psychology major at the University of Michigan, Dr. Hess earned his medical degree from the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University in 1999. He then went on to complete a residency in orthopedic surgery at the Albert Einstein Medical Center in 2004, followed by a spine fellowship at the Scoliosis & Spine Center at UM St. Joseph Medical Center.
With over 22 years of experience, he is board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.
Among his most notable achievements, Dr. Hess holds CLE and CEU certification, and certification for the development of products for use and implementation in spine surgery. He also served as a Clinical Researcher Globus Medical for “A Prospective Randomized Clinical Investigation of the FLEXUS™ Interspinous Spacer: A Pivotal Study”. The study was used to evaluate this product for the treatment of stenosis compared to FDA approved XSTOP.
