Get to know Cardiologist Dr. Michael Flynn, who serves the Naples, Florida area at NCH Physician Group – Cardiology. Dr. Flynn received his medical degree from the Saint Louis University College of Medicine and continued his studies with a residency, internship and fellowship at Saint Louis University Hospital. He has over twenty-five years of experience in the field, and is certified in Cardiovascular Disease, Internal Medicine, and Interventional Cardiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine. With specializations in all facets of cardiology, including angioplasty and cardiac rehabilitation, Dr. Flynn has taken a position on staff at NCH Heart Institute and NCH Downtown Naples Hospital. Most frequently, Dr. Flynn performs cardiac stress tests and EKG, or electrocardiogram procedures in the course of his work. Dr. Flynn also practices preventative medicine, which allows him to help patients maintain a heart-healthy life. As a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and Fellow of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions, he has been able to stay up-to-date on developments in his field. Throughout the course of his career, Dr. Flynn has received many awards for his service, including the Patient’s Choice Award and a Compassionate Doctor Recognition. Cardiology is a branch of internal medicine. A cardiologist is not the same as a cardiac surgeon. A cardiac surgeon opens the chest and performs heart surgery. A cardiologist specializes in diagnosing and treating diseases of the cardiovascular system. The cardiologist will carry out tests, and they may some do procedures, such as heart catheterizations, angioplasty, or inserting a pacemaker. Heart disease relates specifically to the heart, while cardiovascular disease affects the heart, the blood vessels, or both. Dr. Flynn has been certified in the CMS Meaningful Use program, which allows him to stay up to date in medical record technology. He is able to provide patients up-to-date care by using the latest technological equipment and methods.
