Get to know Neonatologist Dr. Renato Casabar, who serves patients in Detroit, Michigan.

A seasoned neonatologist, Dr. Casabar is an attending physician in the Pediatric NICU at Ascension St. John Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. He specializes in neonatal pulmonary function testing and newborn respiratory care.

A native of the Philippines, Dr. Casabar graduated from the University of Santo Tomas. Upon relocating to the United States, he completed his residency in pediatrics at Mt. Carmel Mercy Hospital, followed by his fellowship in neonatal-perinatal medicine at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan.

An expert in his field, the doctor is board-certified in neonatal-perinatal medicine and pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP). The mission of the ABP is to advance child health by certifying pediatricians who meet standards of excellence and are committed to continuous learning and improvement.

Continuously advancing his efforts, he is an active member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the Society of Michigan Neonatologists.

Among his other roles, Dr. Casabar can be found on staff at Ascension Macomb-Oakland Hospital, and Ascension Providence Rochester Hospital.

Neonatology is a subspecialty of pediatrics that consists of the medical care of newborn infants, especially ill or premature newborns. It is a hospital-based specialty and is usually practiced in neonatal intensive care units. Neonatologists generally diagnose and treat newborns with conditions such as breathing disorders, infections, and birth defects, as well as coordinating care and medically managing newborns born prematurely, critically ill, or in need of surgery.
