  • Can chiropractic care help with baby reflux?

Chiropractic is probably the best, if not the only real solution for this problem. I know that I have helped infants with reflux. What is absolutely bad for them is Prilosec and other similar drugs. Please find a chiropractor with some experience in adjusting infants.  All the best, Dr. Neill H.Payne READ MORE

  • Does seeing a chiropractor help TMJ?

I have been very successful in treating TMJ. One patient suffered with TMJ for 40 years. He had seen other chiropractors, MD's, and he even went to the UCLA TMJ clinic to no avail. The first visit was the first time he had had relief in 40 years. Over a course of several visits he was 100% better with only occasional flare ups. Find a chiropractor who has experience and success in treating this problem. All the best, Dr. Neill H.Payne READ MORE

  • Should I see a chiropractor for neck pain?

Scientific studies show that a combination of chiropractic and targeted exercises are the best treatment for all kinds of spinal pain. People usually do better with chiropractic care than with medical treatment, p.t. or other forms of treatment. They get better in half the time, use half the pain meds, and have twice the level of satisfaction with the care they receive.  Cheers, Dr. Neill H.Payne READ MORE

  • Can I crack my own neck safely?

Many people do this occasionally and they don't have any problem doing it. However, doing this all the time will cause the ligaments of the neck to stretch and become unstable allowing the neck to go out of alignment more easily. It is possible to create a subluxation or misalignment by doing this. If you have a need to crack your own neck all the time it is likely that there is any underlying subluxation that you are not able to fix yourself. The cracking you do feels good but it doesn't get to bottom of why you feel like you need to keep doing this. I would recommend seeing a chiropractor. Dr. Neill H. Payne READ MORE

  • Can a chiropractor help with sciatic nerve pain during pregnancy?

I have helped several pregnant patients and some of them with sciatica. Chiropractic is the best solution for a healthier pregnancy and speedier delivery. There are many medical options that are not available to a pregnant women while she is carrying a baby. Fortunately, chiropractic is safe, will not harm the baby and has been proven to be effective.  Dr. Neill H.Payne READ MORE

  • Can a chiropractic treatment become dangerous?

Chiropractic treatment is probably the safest non-medical form of health care that exists. Of course, there is always some amount of risk with any health procedure. However no health care practitioner pays less for malpractice insurance than do chiropractors. Get a reference from a reliable source. If anything makes you uncomfortable, talk to your doctor about it. Mainly, just relax. The deeper you can relax, the easier and more enjoyable the adjustment. It is the best thing that you can do for your body. Dr. Neill H.Payne READ MORE

  • What can I do about my knee pain?

Most knee pain if it is not from some direct injury or a disease process is due to some structural imbalance. With my patients, I begin with a complete examination of the legs from the arches of the feet to the the pelvis and spine. Chronic knee pain can be caused by a muscular imbalance, fallen arches or nerve interference from the low back. These cases usually resolve with adjustments, muscle work, kinesio-taping, acupuncture, or custom orthotics or some combination of these. Try to find a chiropractor who is good at or is a specialist in sports chiropractic. That is your best bet for resolving your issue. Sincerely, Dr. Neill H.Payne READ MORE

  • Why do I only have pain in my left knee?

You can have one arch that has fallen more than the other. That imbalance will cause more stress on one knee more than the other. Your should have your feet evaluated by a chiropractor who has the foot scanning technology to analyze your arches and make recommendations for orthotic support if that is the cause. • What is it called if your back is out of line?

The most common form of a crooked spine is called scoliosis. This is diagnosed by X-ray. There are methods to treat this with chiropractic adjustments, but not all chiropractors specialize in this sort of correction. The earlier treatment begins the more likelihood there will be of optimal correction. It usually begins in the teenage years and is best treated before one is fully grown. Dr. Payne READ MORE

  • Are chiropractic adjustments painful?

Chiropractic adjustments typically are not painful. Almost all the time a patient will feel a great deal of relief immediately afterwards. The more one can relax, the easier that adjustment will feel. A good doctor will set up for the adjustment and feel for the patient to relax when making the correction.Give your doctor feed back about what you are feeling. There are several ways to adjust a patient and sometimes it takes some exploring to find out what will work best for you. Not all chiropractors use the same methods to adjust. Sometimes you may need to find a doctor who uses a different method. All that to say, chiropractic is the best and safest health care you can get. Many patients get excellent improvement with the first adjustment. Others take a few visits before they get noticeable results. The body responds to time and repetition, so for lasting results one should go through a course of active treatment which may consist of several visits a week for a few weeks. Then to maintain the correction and to prevent other problems, one should have regular monthly adjustments. All the best to you, Dr. Payne  READ MORE

  • What do chiropractors do when they crack your back?

The cracking sound you heard is called an audible release. It is the same thing that happens when one pops his knuckles. Every joint in the body where two bones come together has a joint capsule that surrounds the ends and connects the bones together. That capsule is filled with joint fluid. When the bones are pulled quickly as happens in an adjustment the pressure inside the joint drops. The same drop in pressure happens when one unscrews the lid of a Coke. The release of pressure causes the coke to release gases that are in the fluid. The gases become bubbles and create the cracking or popping sound. The same process occurs in the joints and it creates that sound. It is a good thing and is part of a good adjustment. READ MORE

  • What is making my spine hurt so badly?

There is really no way to answer this question without doing a history and exam. X-rays would also help. At this point, it could be several reasons that your spine hurts. Chiropractors are the spinal pain experts and it would be best to find a chiropractor that other people rave about. Based on many scientific studies, we have the best record of helping people with your symptoms. All the best, Dr. Payne  READ MORE

  • Is a chiropractic adjustment a good option for chronic headaches?

The short answer it yes, chiropractic treatment can probably help you get rid of your headaches.  This is copied from the Duke University Headache study: "Spinal manipulation was associated with improvement in headache outcomes in two trials involving patients with neck pain and/or neck dysfunction and headache. Manipulation appeared to result in immediate improvement in headache severity when used to treat episodes of cervicogenic headache when compared with an attention-placebo control. Furthermore, when compared to soft-tissue therapies (massage), a course of manipulation treatments resulted in sustained improvement in headache frequency and severity."  FCER Duke Evidence Report Exec Summary Sincerely, Dr. Payne READ MORE

  • Is it normal to have pain after first chiropractic adjustment?

It is not unusual to have pain in the form of muscle soreness after your first adjustment. Typically, it resolves that afternoon or the next day. If it doesn't, be sure to call your doctor to let him know. This usually only happens after the first or second treatment. It is due to the muscles relaxing. They have been overworking in response to the spinal problems. Once they relax, it is like you have been over-training at the gym. You get sore. Hope that helps. Dr. Payne  READ MORE

  • Can a chiropractor help with spinal stenosis?

I have had great success treating patients with spinal stenosis and keeping them from having surgery. There are special adjusting techniques that will relieve these symptoms, but it is not an overnight process. Dr. Payne READ MORE

  • There's still pain after cortisone. What should I do?

There can be several reasons for shoulder pain, impingement, bone spurs, muscle imbalance and subluxation of the shoulder. It would take a complete exam to figure out what is the cause of it. I am sorry that the cortisone injection did not give you any relief. Some people get a wonderful "cure" of the pain, most get at least two weeks relief before symptoms return and like you, sometimes it fails to give any relief.  While cortisone can help with the pain it usually does not get to the cause of the pain and has the unfortunate additional effect of damaging the tendons and ligaments and weakening the bones. I would advise you to find a good chiropractor who treats sports injuries. He can probably help you. Cheers, Dr. Payne READ MORE

  • Do chiropractors treat chronic neck pain?

Current research shows that chiropractic is the best treatment for resolving chronic neck or back pain. You need to find a good chiropractor and start treatment quickly. Get references from your friends who have a chiropractor. There are many competent doctors but chiropractic is very artful and it is sometimes hard to find a really excellent doctor. The best reference will be from someone who says, "I've seen a lot of chiropractors and this guy is the best."  I am sorry that you are still suffering from your car wreck. Again, I urge you to start care as soon as you can. Statistics also show that the level of pain you have at 3 months is often the level you will continue to have months and years later. • Can I exercise after a back adjustment?

It is not unusual to have some soreness when beginning an adjustment routine. But, that should go away after the first few adjustments. If you are getting regular adjustments (once a week or two) and this is true every time you are adjusted, be sure to talk to your chiropractor and let him know. He may need to modify the adjustment, use a different technique or re-examine you to find out why this is continuing to happen. If you are improving over time, this may eventually stop, but you chiropractor should still want to know.  As far as exercise goes, I tell my patients that exercise sets the adjustment. It may be that after an adjustment gentle exercise like walking or range of motion exercises within pain tolerance would be beneficial and help reduce the soreness. Drinking extra water can help flush toxins that are released from muscles that become more relaxed and that may feel sore after and adjustment. Soaking in an Epsom Salt bath is also helpful. Run these suggestions by your chiropractor to get his input on them. He knows your back and situation better than I do. Also, listen to your body and do the things that make it feel better. That is usually a good guide. All the best, Dr. Payne READ MORE

  • X-rays again?

I cannot speak specifically about the laws of Illinois as I am only licensed in North Carolina. I can say that our state requires at least one examination per year for patients with ongoing treatment. Considering your conditions "spinal curvature and collapsed vertebra" it would be in you own interest to know if there has been further change or deterioration of your spinal condition. Five years is a reasonable amount of time to want a re-examination to determine what if anything has changed for the better or worse and what has been maintained. All the best to you, Dr. Payne READ MORE

  • My son suffers from ADHD. Should I bring him to a chiropractor?

Chiropractic treatments work on balancing the nervous system and normalizing the flow of nerve information to and from the brain. ADHD of course involves the brain and so short answer, yes, it would be worthwhile to try it. See if you can find a doctor who has worked a lot with this condition. In my practice two things I recommend are Prime my Body hemp oil and Voxx socks. READ MORE

  • Why a chiropractor for my daughter's constipation?

Constipation can be caused by an irritation to the nerves that regulate the bowels. The irritation interferes with the signals that move the bowels and allow them to empty. Chiropractors treat the spine to remove the interference to the nerves. Once the normal nerve activity is restored then normal function can occur. In my experience children typically respond very rapidly and positively to gentle adjustments. Your pediatrician is very wise to recommend chiropractic care, the largest oldest drug free health care system in the United States. READ MORE

  • What can be done for my sciatica?

There are several causes for sciatica. True sciatica is a pain that runs down the back of the leg following the sciatic nerve (some people call it their psychotic nerve). This is generally caused by a bulging disk. Many disk problems are successfully resolved by chiropractic treatment. In several studies chiropractic is the treatment of choice. Pain on the outside of the thigh is probably coming from another cause. You need a good chiropractor who can differentiate the cause and apply the proper treatment. Treatment usually consist of a series of chiropractic adjustments. The worse the problem, the longer the course of treatment, generally. Often other therapies will be needed including physical therapy, exercise, diet, nutrition, and acupuncture. If it is a disk problem and the doctor can decrease the bulging then the problem will not return unless the patient does something else to cause it to bulge again like lifting wrong or too much weight. If the patient has waited too long and there is much degeneration then a regimen of wellness care getting adjustments once or twice a month will usually keep the symptoms minimized or absent. • What is the treatment for tennis elbow?

Often tennis elbow is caused by a slight misalignment of the bones of the elbow joint. The repeated straining of the joint from even ordinary activity will cause inflammation of the surrounding tissues. Treating the inflammation with pain killers and anti-inflammatory drugs will only make the problem get worse. You have to treat the cause of the inflammation. Braces may give temporary relief but I have never seen them cure the problem. Only adjusting the joint and restoring normal function will cause it to go away. READ MORE

  • Can a chiropractor help to align my back?

Without knowing more about your history and without an X-ray, it would be difficult to give you a definitive answer. Generally, there are some curvatures that can be improved with chiropractic treatment. I have helped many patients with scoliosis, but it takes persistence and commitment. READ MORE

  • Can you suggest some medication for treating my shoulder pain?

You would do best by avoiding NSAIDS like Ibuprofen, and Acetamenophen. These are not good to treat chronic, long-term pain. They can damage you organs. You could try homeopathic remedies like Arnica Montana. There are also some very effective creams like Real Time Pain Relief, or Deep Blue Essential Oil. The best treatment is to find the cause of the pain. A good chiropractor can help you determine if your pain is due to nerve irritation, poor posture, poor muscle balance or shoulders that need to be adjusted. READ MORE

  • I have pain in my hips due to excess weight. What can I do?

You are probably correct about the weight gain causing hip pain. The excess weight can also change the arches of the feet, making them flat, which will in turn cause knee or hip problems or both. The change in your center of gravity will also put new stresses on your lower back, causing subluxation and nerve irritation, which can also manifest as hip pain. Besides losing weight, have your chiropractor check your feet as well as your back. READ MORE

  • I have pain in my back everytime I put on weight. Why does this happen?

It could be that the increased weight shifts your center of gravity forward placing greater stress on your low back. There is also a condition called spondylolisthesis that will cause a narrowing of the spinal canal and a pinching of the spinal cord. The increased weight can aggravate this condition. Both of these conditions can be treated without surgery or drugs through chiropractic. READ MORE

  • Is there a way to treat back pain arising due to long sitting hours?

There are several causes of low back pain and a chiropractic exam could determine what the best treatment course would be. Until you can get help, it might be advisable for you to work at a standing desk. Since you did not mention any leg pain, it is not likely that you have a herniated disk, although that would have to be ruled out. I would like to know if you are eventually able to stand up straight or does this prevent you from straightening at all. You might get some relief by lying on the floor with your feet in the seat of a chair or couch keeping the hips and knees bent at 90 degrees and just relaxing. While there are things that might decrease the pain, it is important to find out exactly what is going on and that would take having a thorough examination. READ MORE

  • How can i reduce my pain due to ankle sprain?

The typical ankle sprain is an inversion sprain where the foot rolls inward. If a fracture has been ruled out, usually by having X-rays done of the foot and ankle, then an ankle adjustment could help reposition the misaligned bone and restore the proper motion to the joints of the foot. Taping or a walking boot may also help. READ MORE

  • Why do I have a sharp knee pain?

It sounds like you might have "runners knee", this is a broad term that covers many causes. Treatments could include chiropractic adjustments of the knee, custom insoles or foot orthotics, exercises to balance the leg muscles, adjustment of the low back and sacrum to improve nerve function to the legs and Kinesio tape. • Is it bad to suddenly stop chiropractic care?

It probably won't have an immediate negative effect, but you might ask the same question about brushing your teeth. By the time untreated spinal issues become symptomatic there can be a lot of deterioration before you feel any pain. This is similar to cavity formation and that is why we recommend regular dental visits and regular chiropractic. I am sorry about the current state of health insurance. It is causing people to have to make bad choices about their health care. That is why I offer a very affordable wellness care program for my patients who want to maintain their correction. READ MORE

  • My mother has developed a problem of shaking hands. What could be the reason behind it?

The two most common causes are benign essential tremor and Parkinson's Disease. Parkinson's tremor often manifests with the classic "pill rolling tremor". It looks as if one is constantly rolling a pill around in between the fingers. There are other possible causes like medication, but you should have her examined soon. If it is Parkinson's the soon she gets treatment the better. READ MORE

  • My father is suffering from severe back pain. Can it be treated with manual adjustment of the spine?

He would need an exam including a history of his complaint and X-rays to determine if chiropractic is the best choice. If fracture or tumor is not the cause, a combination of chiropractic and exercise has been proven to be the most effective, quickest, least expensive treatment method and it enjoys a reputation of having the highest patient satisfaction.
