  • Will my son need glasses for life?

It will be helpful to know the diagnosis. However, is very common to have myopia, also called nearsightedness, at a very early age. The younger the diagnosis is usually, the stronger it will get through the lifetime of a patient. Early onset myopia or hyperopia has a genetic pattern and in moat cases myopia is a dominant trait from the parents. It is hard to predict how much more prescription will the patient develops, but it is known that it will not go away. The meaning of myopia is that the eye keeps growing more than the actual normal size of the eye. Hyperopia also can change in the ages of puberty. READ MORE

  • My left eye sight went out this morning?

That’s consider an emergency. Contact your optometrist or ophthalmologist and if after hours please go to the Emergency room and the emergency doctor could contact an ophthalmologist to assess you. This could be a retinal detachment which needs to be operated on as soon as possible to have better visual outcome. It could also be a artery or vein occlusion and if you wait too long the vision lost may not be recovered. Certain conditions like hypertension and diabetes can out you at risk of retinal detachment and/or bleeding. READ MORE

  • I tasted my eye drops?

Often times we taste the eye drops when we instill them in our eyes. It is actually a good sign that the channel that connects the eyes to drain the excess of tears to the nasal cavity. This is the same system that if it’s blocked can cause over flow of tears in some patients. There is nothing abnormal in tasting your eye drops when instilled into your eyes. READ MORE

  • My nephew is 7 years old and has been diagnosed with cataract. What should we do?

Congenital cataracts can cloud the vision of a child but it all depends on the severity of them. Often, it is just a remnant from a blood vessel while they were in the womb and never completely disintegrates. If the doctor didn’t recommend any treatment it must be because it doesn’t need to be treated. If the cataract is obscuring the visión the doctor will recommend to remove it to prevent having amblyopia which is Aldo called “lazy eye “. . READ MORE

  • Ophthalmology?

Yes of course! Now contact lens prescriptions often look very different from your eyeglass prescription due to high power of myopia or astigmatism and the distance of the prescription from your eyes. You will need to be fitted for contact lenses and get trials lenses during the exam as well as training to be able to wear them safely. READ MORE

  • My eyes are puffed up and feel heavy. Why?

Your symptoms are common of patients with dry eye syndrome. Often due to environmental changes like long hours of exposure to devices like computers, video game tv or could be that the glands don’t produce enough moisture and if expose to wind it leads to mire dry eye symptoms. Artificial tears can reileves the symptoms. I prefer the gel type ones because most adults suffer from a drop in oily moisture glands ans regular watery artificial ones will not help. READ MORE

  • Are there any drops to keep my eyes clear of infections?

You may suffer from allergies and not infections. Similar symptoms but tráteles differently. Try over the counter eye allergy remedies ans artificial tears as well. If not better please visit your optometrist for further care. READ MORE

  • What should I do for recurrent pink eye?

“Pink eye “ is a common name given to a conjunctivitis. There are different types of conjuntivitis and adults rarely get bacterial conjunctivitis like children does. Most likely you are having allergic conjunctivitis, viral conjunctivitis or a secondary conjuntivitis related to acne rosacea that is involving your eyelid and eyes or contact lens overwear related infections. Please ask your doctor to explain to you the source of your eye condition. This is the only way you will be able to prevent them. READ MORE

  • Why do my eyes turn bloodshot by the end of the day?

One of the most common reasons for having red and tired eyes at the end of the day is Dry Eye Syndrome. This affects millions of people and is a lack of one or both glands that produce tears. When you blink every 25 seconds , the two types of tears should come out and protect your eyes from the wind or exposure to light. If the glands that produces oil are not working well the other tear that is liquid will quickly evaporate. Water and oil do not mix, there fire the oily layer is there to be on top of the watery to hold moisture until you blink again. If not there , the basic watery tear will evaporate as soon as you open your eyes in between blinks. Exposure to computer , tv and driving will make these symptoms worse because you are staring and blinking less. Contact your optometrist to know exactly what type of dry eyes you may have or if it is a different condition that is affecting your eyes. READ MORE

  • I have a problem seeing in dim light. Could it be night blindness?

Most of the time, it means that you need to have your vision corrected with eyeglasses or contacts. When we don’t see 20/20 at nighttime is when we have more problems. Astigmatism causes distortion to light and it is more noticeable at night. There are conditions that affect night vision permanently and it is important to consult with your eye care provider to ensure it is not a condition that can deteriorate your vision permanently.
