Prior to starting at Campbell in 2017, Dr Elliott was on faculty at Wake Forest University and East Tennessee State University. Dr. Elliott is a medical doctor specializing in the care of mental health patients. As a psychiatrist, Dr. Elliott diagnoses and treats mental illnesses. Dr. Elliott may treat patients through a variety of methods including medications, psychotherapy or talk therapy, psychosocial interventions and more, depending on each individual case. Different medications that a psychiatrist might prescribe include antidepressants, antipsychotic mediations, mood stabilizers, stimulants, sedatives and hypnotics. Dr. Elliott treats all psychiatric conditions but has particular interest in Adult ADHD, PMS/PMDD/ Post-partum depression, PTSD, Social Anxiety Disorder and Treatment Resistant Depression.

People with generalized social anxiety have a phobia across many different situations involving scrutiny by others ( dinner parties, mingling, meeting new people, dating). Treatment usually involves medication management with SSRIs ( such as Prozac, Paxil, Zoloft, etc). combined with cognitive behavioral therapy.
