At the start of her medical journey, Dr. Spillane graduated with her medical degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical School in 2005. She then went on to complete her internship/residency in pediatrics at Mount Sinai Medical Center in 2008, followed by her fellowship in neonatology at NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital in 2011.

Passionate about her profession, she is board-certified in both pediatrics and neonatal-perinatal medicine by the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP). Neonatology is a subspecialty of pediatrics that consists of the medical care of newborn infants, especially the ill or premature newborn. It is a hospital-based specialty, and is usually practised in neonatal intensive care units. Neonatologists diagnose and treat newborns infants with breathing disorders, infections, birth defects or other conditions. They are trained to manage the medical care necessary for premature infants or critically ill newborns, especially coordinating any surgical procedures. They also work closely with pediatricians and dietitians to ensure that fragile newborns receive the nutrition they need for healing and growth.
