In regards to his educational background, Dr. Nussbaum earned his medical degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine. He subsequently completed his residency in ophthalmology at the Medical College of Georgia, and his fellowship training at the Retina Associates/Eye Research Institute of the Retina Foundation at Harvard Medical School.

Distinguished as a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (FAAO), the doctor is board-certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO). The ABO is an independent, non-profit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists in the United States of America.

Prior to joining Aiyan Diabetes Center, he served as the William S. Hagler Distinguished Chair of Ophthalmology at the Medical College of Georgia, and was the Co-Director of the James & Jean Culver Vision Discovery Institute. Under his leadership, the institute became one of the country’s leading vision research programs in federal grant funding and philanthropic support.

Furthermore, he is the Former CEO of Augusta University Medical Associates; Executive Vice President for Clinical Affairs at Augusta University; and Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs at the Medical College of Georgia.
