Dr. Sandoval-Herrera is not only a highly regarded and experienced surgeon but one that is caring and compassionate.

As one of Chicagoland’s leading obstetrician-gynecologists, he is the Director of Gynecology and Chief of the Division of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital. Dr. Sandoval-Herrera is also on staff at Sinai Convenient Care at Pilsen and Alivio Medical Center – Morgan Street, and is affiliated with both Chicago Family Health Center on 63rd and Kedzie & Access Community Health on Cermak and Western.

Graduating with his medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Monterrey in 2003, Dr. Sandoval-Herrera went on to complete his residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in 2011.

Board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology, he is a Diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG). The mission of the ABOG is to define specialty standards, certify obstetricians and gynecologists, and facilitate continuous learning to advance knowledge, practice, and professionalism in women’s health.

Recognizing and refining superior surgical care, Dr. Sandoval is also one of the only gynecologists in Chicago that has board certification in minimally invasive gynecology as well.

With fellowship status, he is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FACOG) and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).

An active member of the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopy (AAGL), Dr. Sandoval-Herrera has contributed several submissions for the AAGL’s educational library.

Obstetrics and gynecology (OB-GYN) is the medical specialty that encompasses the two subspecialties of obstetrics (covering pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period) and gynecology (covering the health of the female reproductive system – vagina, uterus, ovaries, and breasts). An obstetrician-gynecologist specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases and disorders that affect women, such as breast cancer, cervical cancer, and menopause. Additionally, they work with expecting mothers throughout their pregnancies, during childbirth, and into postpartum.

In 2018, the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC), showcased Dr. Sandoval-Herrera after successfully performing a milestone hysterectomy. A patient with an exceptionally large uterus was given several opinions; her hysterectomy should be performed using an open-approach, which would have resulted in a large incision and required a longer recovery period. Instead, Dr. Sandoval-Herrera used a minimally invasive laparoscopic approach. The procedure was a complete success and there were no post-surgical complications. The patient was discharged in two days.

Dr. Sandoval-Herrera stands among the select surgeons who have received training in the cutting-edge VNOTES technique, the latest advancement in minimally invasive procedures. With VNOTES, he can perform vaginal hysterectomies for cases that were traditionally considered laparoscopic or abdominal procedures. The remarkable aspect of this technique is its scar-free nature, offering patients a surgery with no visible scars.

A Master Surgeon in Minimally Invasive Gynecology (MSMIG), Dr. Sandoval-Herrera was awarded with the Golden Scalpel, Golden Laparoscope and Golden Apple at Mount Sinai Hospital. He also received the distinguished recognition as Champion Surgeon of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology.

On a more personal note, he speaks multiple languages, including English, Spanish, and French.
