Dr. Gordon is a board-certified neurosurgeon who specializes in surgery and treatment of the brain, spine & peripheral nerve disorders. She is the director of the Infirmary Neuroscience Center of Excellence, which is a part of Infirmary Health.

Infirmary Neurosurgery provides a full range of diagnostic services and treatment for neurologic conditions including brain tumors, complex and degenerative spine issues, and trauma. Clinical specialties include complex spine surgery, cervical disc replacements, minimally invasive spine surgery as well as fusions, disorders of the pituitary gland, tumors in and around the brain or spinal cord, stereotactic surgery, and peripheral nerve surgery.

Having always enjoyed the challenge of taking things apart and putting them back together, this enthusiasm for figuring things out led Dr. Gordon to Vanderbilt University where she majored in Biomedical Engineering. During her senior design project, she engineered a glove for use during deep brain stimulation electrode placement to quantify Parkinson’s disease symptoms. This is where she found her passion for neurosurgery.

Furthering her medical education, she went on to receive her medical degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine in 2008. She then completed her residency in neurological surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine where she also served as chief resident of neurological surgery.

Having grown up as a southern belle from a rural town in south Alabama, Dr. Gordon credits her success to her family who never set any boundaries and who “always believed in me.” She is board-certified through the American Board of Neurological Surgery, whose broad aim is to encourage the study, improve the practice, elevate the standards and advance the science of neurological surgery and thereby serve the cause of public health.

Neurosurgery is the medical specialty concerned with the prevention, diagnosis, surgical treatment, and rehabilitation of disorders which affect any portion of the nervous system including the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and extra-cranial cerebrovascular system. Neurosurgeons are doctors who diagnose and treat problems with the nervous system, often by performing surgery on the brain or spine. They treat strokes, tumors, cervical and lumbar disc disease, infections, and head or spinal cord injuries.

Among Dr. Gordon’s various accolades include Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2016, 2017, 2018, 2020), Patients’ Choice Award (2017, 2018, 2020), and On-Time Doctor Award (2020).
