Get to know Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Scott Q. Hannum, who serves patients in North Carolina.

A top professional in the field of orthopedic surgery, Dr. Hannum specializes in primary and revision joint replacement, minimally invasive hip and knee procedures, and general orthopedic surgery. He joined EmergeOrtho in 2007, seeing patients at the offices in Wilmington – Ashton & Leland – Brunswick Forest.

Having been providing highly specialized, patient-centered orthopedic and spine care since 1955, EmergeOrtho offers comprehensive care that ranges from office visits to physical and occupational therapy, and from ACR accredited diagnostic imaging to advanced, minimally invasive surgery. The team of specialists include: spine, sports medicine, joint replacement and reconstruction, hand and upper extremity, foot and ankle, podiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R), orthopedic trauma, and pain management.

A 1993 graduate of The University of Toledo College of Medicine, Dr. Hannum went on to perform his residency in orthopedic surgery with Summa Health in 1998. This was followed by a fellowship in adult joint reconstruction at UF Health Shands Hospital in 1999.

Specializing in adult joint replacement and reconstruction, the doctor is board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.

Before moving to Wilmington, Dr. Hannum spent seven years in Washington, North Carolina, in private practice. He has worked extensively as a consultant with many different orthopedic companies, presents internationally, and has helped design instruments and implants for surgery.

Licensed to practice medicine in North Carolina, he is affiliated with Cape Fear Valley Medical Center and New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Continuously engaging in his profession, Dr. Hannum is an active member of the Southern Orthopedic Association, the Southern Medical Association, the North Carolina Society of Orthopedic Surgeons, the North Carolina Medical Society, the Eastern North Carolina Orthopedic Association, the Pamlico-Albemarle Medical Society, and the American Medical Association.
