Get to know Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Richard S. Schenk, who serves patients in Whippany, New Jersey. 

Dr. Schenk is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who is in practice at Atlantic Orthopaedic Associates in Whippany, New Jersey. There, he, Dr. Grob, and Dr. Spinnickie offer the highest quality orthopedic care tailored to the special needs of each patient. They are among the most qualified orthopedic surgeons in New Jersey who are active members in local, state, and national orthopedic community, committees, and societies. They also routinely attend and teach at national and international conferences, often lecturing on the most up-to-date techniques and treatments. 

Doctors Schenk, Grob, and Spinnickie are in charge of the resident trauma rotation for the orthopedic residency program at Jersey City Medical Center. These residents also come to Morristown Medical Center specifically to be taught orthopedic trauma by Atlantic Orthopaedic Associates.

Professionally, Dr. Schenk is the Director of Orthopedic Trauma at Morristown Medical Center in New Jersey. He is also the Former Vice Chairman of the Department of Orthopedics at Morristown Medical Center.

Throughout his education, he completed his undergraduate degree from Cornell University in  Ithaca, New York. He then went on to earn his medical degree and to complete his residency in orthopedics at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark, New Jersey. His fellowship training in orthopedic trauma and joint reconstruction was completed at the University of Toronto in Canada. 

Thereafter, he became board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons, as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons. Moreover, he is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a member of the New Jersey Orthopedic Society.

Orthopedic surgery or orthopedics is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic surgeons use both surgical and nonsurgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.
