Born in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, Dr. Crookshank grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Neuroscience and his Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy.

Wanting to pursue a career in medicine, he earned his medical degree from the Temple University School of Medicine in 2003. He then completed his internship and residency at Temple, followed by his fellowship at the Temple Lung Center.

A Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians (FCCP), he is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Thoracic Society, the Neurocritical Care Society, and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
