Regarding his medical background, Dr. Yousif attended medical school at the University of Brussels in Belgium. He completed his internship at Moncton City Hospital in New Brunswick, Canada and his residency in general surgery at Wilmington Medical Center in Wilmington, Delaware. He completed his formal training with a residency in plastic surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin along with a hand and microsurgery fellowship. Upon completing his fellowship, he was invited to join the teaching staff at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
Subsequent to his training, the doctor attained board certification in plastic surgery through the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). The mission of the ABPS is to promote safe, ethical, efficacious plastic surgery to the public by maintaining high standards for the education, examination, certification, and continuous certification of plastic surgeons as specialists and subspecialists.
Recognized as a world leader in plastic surgery, Dr. Yousif has published and presented numerous scientific articles related to plastic surgery in the United States and abroad, including being the first to describe and perform the Gortex Mid-face Lift and the TUG Flap, techniques which he has performed for over 25 years. More recently, he developed the Hyoid Suspension Neck Lift, which is a technique that provides more natural and long lasting results.
Plastic surgery is a surgical specialty involving the restoration, reconstruction, or alteration of the human body. It can be divided into two main categories – reconstructive surgery and cosmetic surgery. A plastic surgeon’s primary responsibility is performing surgical and non-surgical procedures, and they use a variety of reparative and reconstructive techniques to get the job done.
Being instrumental to the field of plastic and cosmetic surgery, Dr. Yousif has published over 100 articles, abstracts, and book chapters. He has received numerous awards for his publications and continues to investigate and describe various aspects of plastic surgery.
His paper “The Naso-labial Fold: A Photogrammetric Analysis” was awarded the Aesthetic Associations “Best Paper” Award. He has been mentioned in Allure Magazine as one of the world experts on facial aging, and has won the Society of Plastic Surgery’s National Award for “Best Research Paper” twice. In 1992, he received The Plastic Surgery Society’ National Award for “Best Research Paper of the Year” for his description and use of the TUG Flap, having been the first in the world to perform this technique.
