Dr. Heiselman is a Professor of Internal Medicine at Northeast Ohio Medical University, a public medical school in Rootstown, Ohio. 

Since July of 2018, he has also been serving as Vice President at Global Product Development PPD in Bethesda, Maryland.

In regards to his educational background, Dr. Heiselman graduated with his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Kansas State University in 1975. He then went on to earn his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1979. Thereafter, he performed his residency in internal medicine at Akron General Medical Center, and his fellowship in cardiovascular disease with Summa Health System/NEOMED.

From July of 1984 until June of 2006, Dr. Heiselman served as Chief of Critical Care Medicine at Akron General Medical Center.

With an unwavering commitment to his speciality, he is board-certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease by the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine (AOBIM). The AOBIM is an organization that provides board certification to qualified Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine who specialize in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease in adults.

Maintaining fellowship status, Dr. Heiselman is a Fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine, a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians, and a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He is also a member of the American Osteopathic Association.

Internal medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Physicians specializing in internal medicine are called internists. They manage and prevent common and complex diseases by providing comprehensive care and promoting overall well-being.
