Born in New York City but raised in the serene town of Norfolk, Nebraska, Dr. Patel completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Biology at Northwestern University. Her dedication to learning and her thirst for knowledge then led her to earn a Medical Degree with high distinction from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. During her medical school journey, she garnered the esteemed honor of being elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, a recognition reserved for those who exhibit exceptional excellence in their medical studies. Furthermore, her M.D. research thesis earned her well-deserved honors.
Throughout her academic voyage, Dr. Patel’s brilliance earned her a multitude of accolades and scholarships, a testament to her unwavering commitment to academic excellence. Her pursuit of medical expertise continued as she embarked on a transitional rotating internship at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Scottsdale, Arizona. Following this, she undertook a residency in ophthalmology at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, where her dedication saw her serve as acting chief resident for a notable five months.
To further her expertise, Dr. Patel completed a cornea and refractive surgery fellowship at the Dean McGee Eye Institute within the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City during the year 2003. During her residency, she had the privilege of working directly alongside the esteemed Dr. Gholam Peyman, the inventor of LASIK.
A talented LASIK and cataract surgeon, Dr. Patel has the training, experience, and qualifications necessary to properly handle vision correction and eye care. She became board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology in 2004, the same year that she founded Wichita Vision Institute, P.A.
