Get to know Pediatric Pulmonologist Dr. Akinyemi Ajayi, who serves patients throughout the State of Florida.

A trusted pediatric pulmonologist, Dr. Ajayi is affiliated with Children’s Lung, Asthma & Sleep Specialists, providing comprehensive care to children across Florida. Known for his gentle demeanor and effective communication skills, he excels in explaining complex medical conditions to both parents and children, fostering a supportive environment that values understanding and collaboration. He approaches each medical challenge with an unwavering commitment to diagnosis and treatment, relishing the opportunity to unravel every medical mystery that crosses his path. 

Born in England, he received his medical degree from the University of Ilorin in Nigeria in 1992, and completed his residency in internal medicine at the Maimonides Medical Center in New York in 1999. Finally, his journey led him to subspecialty training in pediatric pulmonology and sleep medicine at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, renowned as one of the foremost institutions in the United States.

Board certified in pediatric pulmonology and sleep medicine, as well as a Diplomate of the American Board of Sleep Medicine, Dr. Ajayi brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his practice. His expertise extends beyond clinical practice, as he actively engages in medical education, serving as a speaker at Continuing Medical Education events and leading resident lecture series in pediatric pulmonology and sleep medicine.

Achieving fellowship status, he is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (FAAP), Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians (FCCP), and Fellow of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (FAASM). He is also a proud member of the American Medical Association, as well as the American Thoracic Society.

In addition to his focus on pediatric pulmonary and sleep disorders, Dr. Ajayihas made significant contributions as the Director for Pediatric Pulmonary Services at Florida Hospital for Children for over a decade. Furthermore, he serves as the Medical Director at the Florida Pediatric Research Institute, overseeing clinical research studies in pulmonary and sleep medicine.

Pulmonology is a medical specialty that deals with diseases involving the respiratory tract. Pediatric pulmonologists diagnose, treat, and manage children from birth to 21 years old with breathing and lung diseases.

Outside of his professional endeavors, Dr. Ajayi finds fulfillment in his role as a devoted husband and proud father of three beautiful teenage daughters.
