Well-versed in the field of emergency medicine, Dr. Chew is Chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine at NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem.

Harlem Hospital Center, branded as NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem, is a 272-bed, public teaching hospital affiliated with Columbia University. It is the largest hospital in Central Harlem and only Safety Net Hospital in Northern Manhattan, providing a wide range of medical, surgical, diagnostic, therapeutic, and family support services to the residents of Central Harlem, West Harlem, Washington Heights, and Inwood.

Throughout his academic career, Dr. Chew received his undergraduate and graduate degrees at New York University, before attending the New York Medical College, where he completed his medical education in 2003. He then went on to perform his internship and residency in emergency medicine at the Jacobi Medical Center in 2004 and 2007, respectively. 

Subsequent to his education, the doctor attained board certification in emergency medicine through the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM). The ABEM certifies emergency physicians who meet its educational, professional, and examination standards.

Emergency medicine, also known as accident and emergency medicine, is the medical specialty concerned with the care of illnesses or injuries requiring immediate medical attention. An emergency physician works in an emergency department to care for acutely ill or injured patients on an unscheduled basis.

As a testament to his success, Dr. Chew has been the recipient of the Patients’ Choice Award (2016, 2013) and Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2016).
