Board-certified cardiologist Dr. Portnay is currently a partner at Cardiology Physicians of Fairfield County in Stamford, Connecticut. Formed in 1969, the goal of Cardiology Physicians of Fairfield County is to provide diagnostic testing and consultative care, in conjunction with primary healthcare providers, to patients throughout Fairfield County, Connecticut. The 21 cardiologists and 5 nurse practitioners working there have expertise in invasive and surgical cardiovascular techniques, as well as expertise in cardiac-electrophysiology. 

After earning his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts in 1997, Dr. Portnay went on to complete his residency at New York University School of Medicine in 2000. Thereafter, he completed his fellowship in cardiology and his fellowship in interventional cardiology at Yale University School of Medicine in 2004 and 2005, respectively. 

Following his education, the doctor earned Fellowship status with the American College of Cardiology and the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions. He also became board-certified in both cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart, as well as some parts of the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, and electrophysiology. Cardiologists are doctors who diagnose, assess, and treat patients with diseases and defects of the heart and blood vessels. 

With a solid professional and educational background, Dr. Portnay has been honored with several awards and recognitions throughout his career, including the Fellow Travel Award at the 5th Scientific Forum on Quality of Care & Outcomes Research in Cardiovascular Disease & Stroke and the Arthur Zitrin Award for Excellence in Medical Ethics Education, to name a few.
