Dr. Blomgren is a sports medicine physician with Midwest Orthopaedics at RUSH, one of the nation’s most respected and busiest private orthopaedic practices in the country. He operates out of the offices in Chicago and Westchester, Illinois.
His practice provides osteopathic manipulation, joint and musculoskeletal injections, fracture care, concussion management, compartment pressure testing, sports dermatology and sports physicals. He is enthusiastic about treating athletes of all ages – recreational and elite, community and club programs, high-level college, and professional athletes.
As a member of the Chicago Sports Concussion Clinic at Rush, Dr. Blomgren is dedicated to providing the highest level of care for athletes with sports-related concussions. He has provided numerous talks to parents, student athletes, and coaches on a variety of current sports issues and injury prevention.
Likewise, Dr. Blomgren serves as an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Family Medicine and Orthopaedics at Rush University Medical Center.
A native of West Point, Iowa, where he was valedictorian of his class and a four-sport athlete in high school, Dr. Blomgren came to the Chicago metro area to attend Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois. He was a member of the men’s soccer team there, understanding the needs and challenges the injured athlete faces.
A graduate of the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine at Midwestern University, Dr. Blomgren completed a family practice residency at Resurrection Medical Center. Following his residency, he completed a fellowship in primary care sports medicine at Rush University Medical Center where he worked alongside many of the physicians at Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush.
During his fellowship, he served as one of the team physicians for DePaul University and Trinity International University, providing injury evaluations in the training room and sideline coverage for home football, basketball, and soccer games.
Board-certified in family medicine and sports medicine, Dr. Blomgren is a Diplomate of the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians (AOBFP). The AOBFP is an organization that provides board certification to qualified osteopathic physicians (DOs) who specialize in delivering comprehensive primary care for patients of all ages, genders, and addressing all parts of the body (family physicians).
Demonstrating his dedication and expertise in the realm of sports medicine, Dr. Blomgren holds esteemed positions as one of the co-team physicians for the renowned Chicago White Sox and serves as the Associate Medical Officer for the Chicago Fire Soccer Club.
Beyond these roles, he plays a pivotal role in major sporting events, acting as the Aid Station Medical Captain for the Bank of America Chicago Marathon and taking on the responsibility of Medical Director for the Chicago Athlete Magazine 20-Miler. Furthermore, Dr. Blomgren takes care of the well-being of young athletes as the Head Team Physician for Willowbrook High School athletics, offering weekly training room visits and providing sideline coverage during the football season.
His research interests include concussion management, shoulder injuries in softball pitchers, and injuries in endurance athletes.
