Get to know Optometrist Dr. Jeffrey Hilowitz, who serves patients in Tonawanda, New York.

Dr. Hilowitz is an experienced and knowledgeable optometrist with Stanton Optical in Tonawanda, New York. He is skilled in taking care of ailments such as glaucoma, color vision deficiency, vision problems, and dry eye.

Recognized as a caring practitioner, Dr. Hilowitz invests in instilling trust among his patients. He provides them with all the information they need to make educated decisions about their ocular care.

Obtaining his undergraduate degree from New York University. Dr. Hilowitz produced specialized spectacles for Air Force One and Air Force Two flight crews while practicing in the field of aviation optometry before continuing his education at the SUNY College of Optometry. His brilliant idea for assisting in the production of the greatest glasses was to reproduce the cockpits complete with all of the control panel layouts. He was able to personalize the spectacles to perfectly suit each patient since he knew what the pilots would view while in flight.

Specialized in aviation optometry for over 20 years, Dr. Hilowitz honorably served in the United States Air Force’s biomedical branch as a captain. He was also selected as an optometrist for the Air National Guard in Nashville, Tennessee, and the Israeli Air Force.

His optometric experience includes clinical lecturer at Bar Ilan University in Israel, preceding his position at LaSante Health Center in Brooklyn, New York as well as CVS Optical. He was also an optometrist at Fort Stewart in Hinesville, Georgia, where he worked as part of the Air Force Base and Tuttle Army Health Clinic, and served as a guest lecturer for Corning Optics.

When the hit TV show, Burn Notice, needed an optometrist, Dr. Hilowitz, as a consultant, was the ideal optometrist to work with.

“As an optometrist, you assist patients with one of their most crucial aspects of their lives: their vision. Understanding how much of a responsibility it is can be stressful at times. Similarly, there were obstacles and anxieties associated with my employment in the Air Force. I deal with difficulties by maintaining a sense of equilibrium in all aspects of my life. I strive diligently, but not to the exclusion of other vital elements of my life, such as family and society. I also make it a point to eat well, get enough sleep, and maintain as much wellness as possible. You will be able to have a clearer mind if your health practices are well-balanced” expressed Dr. Hilowitz.

Having maintained excellent patient satisfaction percentages over his decades as a skilled optometrist, his incomparable competence and friendly demeanor are praised by patients. Dr. Hilowitz proactively engages in keeping himself up-to-date with current advances in medicine to treat his patients better.

Optometry is a health care profession that involves examining the eyes and applicable visual systems for defects or abnormalities, as well as diagnosing and managing eye disease. Optometrists are healthcare professionals who provide primary eye care through comprehensive eye examinations to detect and treat various visual abnormalities and eye diseases. Being a regulated profession, an optometrist’s scope of practice may differ depending on the location. Thus, disorders or diseases detected outside the treatment scope of optometry (i.e. those requiring certain surgical interventions) are referred out to relevant medical professionals for proper care, more commonly to ophthalmologists who are physicians that specialize in the tertiary medical and surgical care of the eye. Optometrists typically work closely together with other eye care professionals, such as ophthalmologists and opticians, to deliver quality and efficient eye care to the general public.

Having received various awards throughout his time in the service, Dr. Hilowitz also maintains the record for the longest time without making a single mistake on a patient’s eyeglass prescription. He went 3 years and 3 months throughout his time while serving in Winn Army Community Hospital in Fort Stewart with the Army from 2008-2012 without making a single mistake.

A conscientious individual with a charitable heart throughout his private life, Dr. Hilowitz is committed to providing everything he has to everything he does, and he is continuously looking for ways to improve the community in which he lives and works.

Bilingual, Dr. Hilowitz is fluent in English and Hebrew. This helps patients from a variety of backgrounds enjoy having him as their physician.
