Get to know Hematologist-Oncologist Dr. Neha R. Chawla, who serves patients in New Harbor Township, New Jersey.

Dr. Chawla is a determined hematologist-oncologist with a special interest in treating patients with breast cancer and lymphoma. She is in practice with AtlantiCare Health Park, Egg Harbor Township in New Jersey.

There, she works closely with physician colleagues in offering the full spectrum of community cancer care services—from evaluation and diagnosis to treatment, clinical trials, psychosocial support, wellness services, and survivorship care. 

Receiving her medical degree in India, Dr. Chawla graduated from Maulana Azad Medical College. She then relocated to the United States, performing her internship and residency in internal medicine at Rochester General Hospital. She also completed a fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia.

Subsequent to her education, the doctor attained board certification in hematology and medical oncology through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

In New Jersey, Dr. Chawla is affiliated with AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, Atlantic City Campus & MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper – Egg Harbor Township.

Prior to her current endeavors, she was on faculty at Fox Chase Cancer Center as an adjunct professor in the Department of Hematology/Oncology.

Hematology is the branch of medicine concerned with the study of the cause, prognosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases related to blood. Oncology is a branch of medicine that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. A hematologist-oncologist is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of cancer, malignant blood diseases such as leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma, and blood disorders such as iron-deficiency anemia, clotting abnormalities, hemophilia, and sickle-cell disease.
