Get to know Anesthesiologist & Pain Management Specialist Dr. Anthony O. Russell, who serves patients in Tallahassee, Florida.

A highly trained anesthesiologist & pain management specialist, Dr. Russell is affiliated with TMH Physician Partners – Chronic Pain Management. Having performed all types of interventional pain procedures, his focus now is on the treatment of substance abuse disorders and chronic pain.

Back in 1987, Dr. Russell graduated with his medical degree from the New York University Grossman School of Medicine. He completed his internship at NYU Medical School/Mount Sinai Medical Center, and his residency at Beth Israel Medical Center. Finally, he completed his fellowship at the University of Florida in 2016.

An authority in his field, the doctor is board-certified in anesthesiology and pain medicine by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA). As the certifying body for anesthesiologists since 1938, the ABA is committed to partnering with physicians to advance lifelong learning and exceptional patient care. Its mission is to advance the highest standards of the practice of anesthesiology. 

Furthermore, he is board-certified in addiction medicine by the American Board of Preventive Medicine, a member of the American Board of Medical Specialties that issues “certificates of special knowledge” in the specialty of preventive medicine.

Since 2021, Dr. Russell has been serving as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Florida State University 2021.

Among his professional affiliations, he is an active member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the American Society of Regional Anesthesia, the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, the American Pain Society, and the American Society of Addiction Medicine.

Anesthesiology is the medical specialty concerned with the total perioperative care of patients before, during, and after surgery. It encompasses anesthesia, intensive care medicine, critical emergency medicine, and pain medicine. Anesthesiologists have the primary responsibility of monitoring the patient’s vital signs during surgery. In addition to basic measurements such as pulse, blood pressure, and temperature, they measure the patient’s respiration.

Pain management is a branch of medicine employing an interdisciplinary approach for easing the suffering and improving the quality of life of those living with chronic pain. A pain management specialist is a doctor who specializes in pain medicine, focusing on the evaluation, treatment, and prevention of pain.

As a testament to his success, Dr. Russell has been the recipient of the Next Generation Award in 2015, the Teacher of the Year Award by Wake Forest University in 2012, and the Medtronic Golden Scalpel Award in 1995.
