Get to know Neuroradiologist Dr. Michael Luttrull, who serves patients in Columbus, Ohio.

Dr. Luttrull is a board-certified neuroradiologist with subspecialty expertise in head and neck imaging. He joined the faculty at The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center in 2011 and currently serves as the Section Head of Head and Neck Imaging & the Associate Division Chief of Neuroradiology.

Some of the procedures and conditions that he treats include: head and neck cancer, skull base tumors, diagnostic imaging, radiology, neuroimaging, radiology information systems, and radiography.

The Division of Neuroradiology in the Department of Radiology at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center has a long history of leadership and innovation in diagnostic imaging of the neurologic system, using the first MRI in Ohio (one of the first ten in the United States) and the first ultra-high-field (8 Tesla) MRI system in the world. It offers expertise in all aspects of diagnostic MRI (including perfusion, DTI, functional and spectroscopy), as well as in CT (including perfusion, angiography and spectral imaging). The Division also performs interventional procedures including the following: vertebroplasty; image-guided biopsies of the spine, head and neck; fluoroscopically guided lumbar punctures; and myelography.

In 2005, Dr. Luttrull earned his medical degree from the University of Missouri School of Medicine. He then went on to perform his internship at New York Downtown Hospital in 2006. This was followed by a residency and fellowship at Mount Sinai Medical Center in 2010 and 2011, respectively. 

Following his training, the doctor attained board certification in diagnostic radiology and neuroradiology through the American Board of Radiology (ABR). The ABR is a not-for-profit physician-led organization that oversees the certification and ongoing professional development of specialists in diagnostic radiology, interventional radiology, radiation oncology, and medical physics.

Dr. Luttrull is an active participant in local and national service roles, including the James Hospital Head and Neck Cancer Multidisciplinary Team and the American College of Radiology Appropriateness Criteria Panel. Additional honors he has received include being consecutively awarded the Faculty Teacher of the Year in Radiology by Ohio State radiology residents in 2013 and 2014.

Among his professional affiliations, he is an active member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, the American College of Radiology, the American Society of Neuroradiology, and the Radiological Society of North America.

Neuroradiology is a subspecialty of radiology focusing on the diagnosis and characterization of abnormalities of the central and peripheral nervous system, spine, and head and neck using neuroimaging techniques. A neuroradiologist is a medical doctor (MD or DO) who specializes in diagnosis and characterization of abnormalities of the central and peripheral nervous system, spine, and head and neck using neuroimaging techniques.
