Get to know Dr. Deborah L. Dallam, a geriatric psychiatrist who serves patients in El Paso, Texas

Dr. Dallam is a board-certified geriatric psychiatrist with over thirty-four year of clinical experience. She provides outstanding psychiatry and geriatric psychiatry services to patients at El Paso VA Medical Center in El Paso, Texas. She additionally maintains a private practice in Silver Spring, Maryland, and is affiliated with MedStar Montgomery Medical Center. 

Dr. Dallam earned her medical degree at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1982. She then served her residency in psychiatry at the University of Maryland School of Medicine (1982 – 1987). Dr. Dallam is the co-author of a paper entitled Trauma Reenactments in Aging Veterans with Dementia. 

Dr. Dallam is board-certified in psychiatry and geriatric psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Inc. (ABPN) is a nonprofit corporation that was founded in 1934 as a method of identifying the qualified specialists in psychiatry and neurology. The ABPN is one of 24 member boards of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS).

Psychiatry is the medical specialty devoted to the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of mental disorders. These include various maladaptations related to mood, behaviour, cognition, and perceptions.

According to the American Psychiatric Association, “geriatric psychiatry emphasizes the biological and psychological aspects of normal aging, the psychiatric effect of acute and chronic physical illness, and the biological and psychosocial aspects of the pathology of primary psychiatric disturbances of older age.”
