He participated in pain research studies at Yale University, after which he went on to complete his residency in anesthesiology at Yale University in 2003. This was followed by a fellowship in pain management at the world-renowned Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. 

Continuing to expand his vast knowledge, the doctor is board-certified in anesthesiology and pain medicine by the American Board of Anesthesiology, whose mission is to advance the highest standards of the practice of anesthesiology. 

Passionate about the field of pain medicine, Dr. Shaheen has conducted multiple publications on the subject of pain management. He has also held academic and private positions with more than ten years of experience in the field of pain medicine.
