Get to know Optometrist Dr. Vijay Shenai, who serves patients in Port Richey, Florida.

Dr. Shenai is a highly qualified and experienced board-certified optometric physician who has been a proud resident of Pasco County since the age of 5. He is now the Owner of True Focus Eye Care in Port Richey, Florida.

Founded in 1982, the team at True Focus Eye Care provides exceptional eye health and vision care services for all patients. They use the latest in diagnostic technology to provide innovative, modern eye care services, including comprehensive eye exams, contact lens exams, and more. The optical in the Port Richey location features a diverse selection of designer frames and precision lenses from top brands. 

As a local resident, Dr. Shenai understands the unique vision needs of his patients and is committed to providing the highest quality eye care services to the Pasco County community. Along with the team at True Focus Eye Care, he enjoys making YouTube videos to provide eye health and vision care tips for patients. 

Embarking on his educational journey, Dr. Shenai studied at Pasco Hernando Community College (now State College), where he earned his Associate of Arts degree. He then pursued his passion for optometry by attending Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree. 

Continuing his studies at NSU College of Optometry, Dr. Shenai obtained his Bachelor of Vision Science and Doctorate in Optometry degrees.

His professional affiliations also include the American Optometric Association, the Florida Optometric Association, Central Suncoast Optometric Physicians, and InfantSEE®.

Optometry is a health care profession that involves examining the eyes and applicable visual systems for defects or abnormalities, as well as diagnosing and managing eye disease. Optometrists are healthcare professionals who provide primary eye care through comprehensive eye examinations to detect and treat various visual abnormalities and eye diseases. Being a regulated profession, an optometrist’s scope of practice may differ depending on the location. Thus, disorders or diseases detected outside the treatment scope of optometry (i.e. those requiring certain surgical interventions) are referred out to relevant medical professionals for proper care, more commonly to ophthalmologists who are physicians that specialize in the tertiary medical and surgical care of the eye. Optometrists typically work closely together with other eye care professionals, such as ophthalmologists and opticians, to deliver quality and efficient eye care to the general public.

Dedicated to his community, Dr. Shenai is a proud member and past vice-president of NSU’s Chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Optometrists. He has also been a member of the New Port Richey Rotary Club since 2017 and is always looking for ways to give back to his community. 

Happily married, Dr. Shenai, his wife, and their two children are all Florida natives who love their home state. 

Outside of the office, Dr. Shenai loves playing the violin, fishing, camping, and practicing martial arts.
