Get to know Dermatologist Dr. Edward Perez, who serves patients in San Marcos, Texas.

Dr. Perez is a reputable dermatologist at San Marcos Dermatology, where he remains dedicated to focusing on the health of the skin and treating the whole person.

Formerly known as Dermatology Laser Center & Spa, San Marcos Dermatology was established in 1987 and is located in San Marcos, Texas. It has developed a distinctive philosophy for offering exceptional dermatological care, fusing aesthetics and medicine. The providers offer the latest and most advanced technology for individuals who desire customized treatments and high quality dermatological care‍‍‍. From cosmetic treatments to medical procedures, they aim to keep patients looking great and feeling even better.

A native of Central Texas, Dr. Perez was born and raised in Austin. After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin in Chemical Engineering with an emphasis on Biomedical Applications, he chose to train in clinical medicine at Harvard Medical School where he was in the first class in tutorial curriculum.  He complimented his medical degree from Harvard with graduate study at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He focused on materials for tissue regeneration in which he received his Doctorate of Philosophy degree from MIT.  His work on epithelial cell scaffolding was the genesis of a silicon valley startup for refractive surgery.

He took his dermatology training at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California where he was the chief resident in his final year. His clinical focus remains robust as he constantly maintains clinical activity in all aspects of general dermatology and surgical dermatology. With a penchant for regenerative clinical technologies he has extensive experience in using synthetic skin for wound healing. More recently, Dr Perez has embraced cutting edge therapeutics in biologics to help his patients with previously poorly responsive disease.

Delivering high-quality, compassionate care, he is board-certified in dermatology by the American Board of Dermatology (ABD). The ABD is a voluntary, non-profit, private, autonomous organization formed for the primary purpose of protecting the public interest by establishing and maintaining high standards of training, education, and qualifications of physicians rendering care in dermatology.

Dr. Perez maintains research collaborations with MIT for study and development of new diagnostic and therapeutic medical technologies. Even so, his professional goals center on his patients. He enjoys seeing his patients and considers that interaction paramount. 

He is fortunate to be able to speak Spanish and service a greater portion of the Central Texas population. He feels great affection for the patients of Central Texas and is honored to bring his wide and highly special education to his home state. 

Dermatology is the branch of medicine dealing with the skin, the largest organ of the body; a specialty with medical, surgical and cosmetic aspects. A dermatologist is a specialist doctor who manages skin diseases due to both internal and external causes and is trained to address cosmetic concerns involving the skin. Dermatological duties include diagnosis and management of a variety of skin disorders, rashes, birthmarks, skin cancer screening and treatment, skin infections, cutaneous surgery and the use of injectables and lasers for skin rejuvenation.  

In his spare time, Dr. Perez enjoys hobbies such as biking, fishing, and scuba diving.
