Get to know Internist Dr. Benedict Lucky Fernando, who serves patients in West Haven, Connecticut.

Well-versed in the field of internal medicine, Dr. Fernando is affiliated with PACT Primary Care in West Haven, Connecticut. He can also be found on staff at Milford Hospital, Yale-New Haven Hospital’s York Street campus, and Yale-New Haven Saint Raphael campus.

Back in 1970, he attended medical school at the University of Ceylon in Sri Lanka, and completed his internship at the General Hospital Ceylon. Upon relocating to the United States, he did his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in allergy and infectious disease at the Hospital of Saint Raphael. While there, he served as an emergency room attending physician, member of the medical board, president of medical staff, and trustee, before joining PACT Primary Care.

An authority in his field,  the doctor is board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Internal medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Physicians specializing in internal medicine are called internists. They manage and prevent common and complex diseases by providing comprehensive care and promoting overall well-being.
