Get to know Hematologist-Oncologist Dr. Manjeet S. Chawla, who serves patients in Chicago, Illinois.

Dr. Chawla is a triple board-certified hematologist-oncologist whose areas of expertise include breast cancer, lung cancer, colon cancer, lymphoma, and leukemia. He works within the Cancer Care Center at Thorek Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois.

Educated in Thailand, Dr. Chawla graduated with his medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine at Chiang Mai University in 1972. He then relocated to the United States, performing his residency at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County in 1976, followed by his fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago in 1979.

Board-certified in internal medicine, hematology, and medical oncology, he is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Licensed to practice medicine in Illinois, Dr. Chawla is affiliated with Ascension St. Mary-Chicago, Ascension Saint Elizabeth, Humboldt Park Health-Chicago, St. Anthony Hospital-Chicago, and Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center.

Hematology is the branch of medicine concerned with the study of the cause, prognosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases related to blood. Oncology is a branch of medicine that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. A hematologist-oncologist is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of cancer, malignant blood diseases such as leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma, and blood disorders such as iron-deficiency anemia, clotting abnormalities, hemophilia, and sickle-cell disease.
