Get to know Dermatologist Dr. Amy Newburger, who served patients in Westchester County, New York.

A nationally recognized dermatologist, now retired Dr. Newburger is the Founder of Dermatology Consultants of Westchester in Scarsdale, New York.

Having served the community’s dermatological needs since 1984, Dermatology Consultants of Westchester joined Westmed Medical Group in May 2013.

Throughout her academic career, Dr. Newburger graduated with her medical degree from NYU Grossman School of Medicine in 1974. She then went on to perform her internship in internal medicine and residency in dermatology at Jackson Memorial Hospital in 1975 and 1978, respectively. 

In pursuit of clinical excellence, the doctor is board-certified in dermatology by the American Board of Dermatology (ABD). The ABD is a voluntary, non-profit, private, autonomous organization formed for the primary purpose of protecting the public interest by establishing and maintaining high standards of training, education, and qualifications of physicians rendering care in dermatology.

Among her various positions, Dr. Newburger has served as director / physician at Dermatology Consultants of Westchester, PLLC (1984 – May 2013), and as a visiting scientist at the National Cancer Institute (1978 – 1980). She then supervised the dermatology residents at UC Irvine/Long Beach VA Hospital in California (1980-1983).

Holding fellowship status, she is a Fellow of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (FASDS) and a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology (FAAD).

Dermatology is the branch of medicine dealing with the skin. The skin is the largest organ of the body. Dermatology is a specialty with both medical and surgical aspects. A dermatologist is a specialist doctor who manages skin diseases and deals with both internal and external causes and some cosmetic concerns involving the skin. Dermatological duties include taking consultations, providing screening tests, and undertaking non-invasive surgical procedures.

Throughout her five-decade long career, Dr. Newburger has been a community education program speaker on topics including skincare, environmental impact on the skin, and new technology in skin products. She has also served at the FDA in the Center for Devices and Radiological Health, has lectured extensively around the country, and serves as an expert consultant to the Office of Professional Medical Conduct for the New York State Department of Health. 

She has worked with 5 major corporations on product formulation, design, and clinical testing. Although now retired from direct patient care, she plans to work on product investigation and design in the future.

Having been listed in Castle Connolly’s Best Doctors in America annual issues since 1991, Dr. Newburger is the author of the best-selling book, Looking Good at Any Age: A Woman Dermatologist Talks to Women About What to Expect, What to Accept, What Can Be Changed.

In her book, Dr. Newburger not only explained what women can expect to see when they look in the mirror at every age, she also provides them with the tools that were current in the year of publication, to be certain that their reflection is as youthful, vibrant, and glowing with health as possible.
