Get to know Colorectal Surgeon Dr. Timothy R. Goshen, who serves patients in Wilton Manors, Florida.

Dr. Goshen, a highly trained colorectal surgeon, has been in practice in his specialty of proctology and colon and rectal disease since 1987. He offers his services at Fort Lauderdale Medical Surgical Associates, located in the heart of Wilton Manors, a city in Broward County, Florida.

Fort Lauderdale Medical Surgical Associates offers a full continuum of colon and rectal care, including preventive care such as colonoscopy screening, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up for conditions such as: anorectal disorders – hemorrhoids (both surgical and non-surgical treatments), pilonidal disease, abscesses, fissures, and fistulas; pelvic floor problems – fecal incontinence, constipation, and pelvic organ prolapse; inflammatory bowel disease – Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis; colon and rectal cancer – individualized treatment plans, including cancer staging with endorectal ultrasound, MRI, or surgery; and colonoscopy – cancer screening and detection of colorectal cancer and polyps, as well as detection and screening for ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease.

In regards to his educational background, Dr. Goshen graduated with his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree from the Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1981. Subsequently, he completed his residency and specialty training at Tulsa Regional Medical Center in 1987.

For two years, Dr. Goshen practiced in Tulsa, Oklahoma and then in Dallas, Texas until 2003, at which time, he relocated to Fort Lauderdale and established Fort Lauderdale Medical Surgical Associates. 

Board certified in proctology, Dr. Goshen is a Diplomate of the American Osteopathic Board of Proctology (AOBP). The AOBP is an organization that provides board certification to qualified Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine who specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of disorders of the anus, colon, and rectum of the gastrointestinal tract.

Specializing in HIV related colon and rectal diseases, Dr. Goshen is an active member of the American Academy of HIV Medicine.

Colorectal surgery is a field in medicine dealing with disorders of the rectum, anus, and colon. The field is also known as proctology, but this term is now used infrequently within medicine and is most often employed to identify practices relating to the anus and rectum in particular. Colorectal surgeons specialize in the preoperative, operative, and postoperative care of patients with colorectal disorders. They have comprehensive knowledge about general surgery and in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the rectum, anus, and colon.
