Is an achy feeling normal in acupuncture?
A dull achey feeling after the placement of needles is what we call Da Chi. It is essentially your body’s energy swiftly reacting to the mini injury the needle has just created. It is considered as a good thing as long as the patient is able to relax. Many times new patients that come in very depleted don’t experience much sensation or da chi until after a few visits when there chi has increased to be ample enough to have such reaction. I would encourage you to tell your provider about any sensations that come up and if the sensations are anxiety provoking and the practitioner leaves the room ask for a small bell just in case. How is arthritis treated with acupuncture?
Greetings, Acupuncture treats arthritis the same way that it treats any other ailment, through the lens of Chinese medicine pattern disharmony. With the treatment of arthritis, the differential between wind-cold-damp Bi syndrome or wind-heat Bi syndrome would be made much the same way as western physicians would differentiate between osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Then, treatment depends on the diagnosis. In the case of osteoarthritis, acupuncture and herbal medicine are employed that move the qi and reduce inflammation and dampness within the body. Diet and lifestyle recommendations are also made to help curb its intensity or stop its progression. Often times, giving up foods that create damones in the body like sugar, fried foods, and excessively cold foods help. In the case of rheumatoid, acupuncture and herbal medicine are employed that move the qi, reduce inflammation, and clear damp heat within the body. The role of the immune system and any bi-inflammatory triggers are also sought out and treated. Diet and lifestyle recommendations are also made to help curb its intensity or stop its progression. Often times, giving up spicy foods and getting a good intolerance test to determine if there are foods you are intolerant to that are creating inflammation can be very beneficial. I recommend committing to a treatment plan of 6 sessions and quantifying your pain throughout treatment in order to decide if it’s a valuable treatment that you wish to pursue and then going about trying to wean off of your meds with the help of your acupuncturist and physician. Good luck! READ MORE

Hi there, I have seen acupuncture help with this kind of issue in the past. If the practitioner is skilled, they will be sure to ask about all possible contributing factors to low libido- stress, fatigue, endocrine imbalance, emotional intimacy issues, etc., and then treat based on what they find. Glad to hear that it's helped your anxiety! Best, READ MORE
Can I go to an acupuncturist to get rid of my abdominal pain?
Hi there, I'm sorry to hear that you are currently experiencing pain. Abdominal and GI issues are often helped with acupuncture and herbal medicine. My own success story with traditional Chinese medicine to treat IBS & severe constipation I had as a teenager is what ultimately led me to becoming a DOM. A qualified practitioner will not only administer acupuncture to help resolve the blockage, but they will address any dietary or nutritional deficiencies that could be the root cause of your issue. You may try searching for one that is qualified in functional medicine as well. Even though you are experiencing acidity, it could be low stomach acid that is causing all of this. I complete medical history and a simple at home test for low stomach acid should be utilized to be sure. In the meantime you may try these three acupressure points on yourself for some symptom relief until you can be seen. Apply moderate pressure for a few minutes in rotation until symptoms start to abate or become tolerable. https://theory.yinyanghouse.com/acupuncturepoints/st25 https://theory.yinyanghouse.com/acupuncturepoints/st44 https://theory.yinyanghouse.com/acupuncturepoints/li4 Please note, I am not affiliated with the above clinic, they just happen to have really clear acupuncture diagrams I use to help people like yourself find the specific point that may bring them relief. Acupressure may not help as much as actual acupuncture, but is certainly worth a try! In health, READ MORE
I have headaches frequently. Can acupuncture treatment help?
Acupuncture can be very effective in both chronic cases as well as an acute occurrence while it is happening. Many patients even find success heading off migraines if they can be seen at onset once established with a practitioner. Check out this meta analysis for more information on the treatment of migraines: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3291665/ Personally, I treat a lot of headaches that are hormonally related to a woman’s cycle. I find that herbs typically expedite the treatment response and after a few cycles of the hormones regaining balance, the patient can be weened off of both. I think it’s absolutely worth a try if you are suffering and looking for a permanent solution. READ MORE
