Get to know Cardiologist Dr. Osler Jay Guzon, who serves patients in Potosi, Missouri. 

Dr. Guzon is a fellowship-trained cardiologist who is an expert in evaluating and treating high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, chest pain, blockages in arteries, leg pain and swelling, shortness of breath, heart failure, and irregular heartbeat. He works at Great Mines Health Center in Potosi, Missouri.

Great Mines Health Center is a regional Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), established in 2003. It offers Eastern South Central Missouri residents increased access to quality health care. There, Dr. Guzon offers the following services: general cardiology, EKGs, echocardiograms, carotid ultrasounds, lower extremity arterial studies, and lower extremity venous studies.

Professionally, he is also affiliated with Mercy Hospital Jefferson, a 251-bed acute care facility located in Festus, Missouri. The hospital provides 24-hour emergency room care and a full range of diagnostic, preventive, and restorative health care services.

Raised in Potosi and South St. Louis County, Dr. Guzon obtained his medical degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine in 2001. He then went on to complete his residency in internal medicine at Saint Louis University in 2004, followed by his fellowship in cardiovascular disease at the University of Missouri – Columbia in 2008.

Licensed to practice medicine in Missouri, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, the doctor speaks regionally on cardiovascular disease and diabetes in patients with heart disease. He is board-certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart, as well as the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, and electrophysiology. Cardiologists are doctors who diagnose, assess, and treat patients with diseases and defects of the heart and blood vessels (the cardiovascular system).

Throughout his line of work, Dr. Guzon has chaired and served on several hospital committees, including being Medical Staff President at Mercy Hospital Jefferson. He has been active in his community as a board member of Sussex County ARC in New Jersey, where he was named by the Herald Newspaper as one of the “40 under 40 ” notable county residents.
