Possible allergy?
- If there's something that's probably been there for years and you just discovered it is almost certainly nothing to worry about. If it changes in size or appearance over time your dentist is probably the best person to look at it as their training includes the identification of other mouth problems than just the teeth. I wouldn't schedule a special dentist visit unless you are worried; if it's as you described it doesn't change, I simply asked your dentist to look at it at your next regular exam. Good luck. Can you develop allergies at any age?
Less common to develop new allergies above age 60 but YES still fairly frequent. If you didn't already know if you should know that the primary function of the immune system is to protect us against cancer by recognizing the differences in the receptors with which cells communicate with each other. Defects in this signaling are what allow cancer cells to grow and spread outside of where they belong. Allergies are when the immune system finds the same differences in things that are dangerous and attached them like it would attack a cancer cell and allergy symptoms are the bystander casualties of the chemical weapons immune cells used in that attack. You're developing allergies at age 53 probably means your immune system is relatively young and vigorous for your age. While the allergy symptoms are annoying, the same active immune system probably reduces your risk of certain cancers. READ MORE
