At Cumbre Medical Center, the goal of primary care physician & internist, Dr. Mendez, is to provide comprehensive medical care for people of all ages living in and around Garland, Texas, and throughout Dallas County.
Having served the Garland community for more than 20 years, Dr. Mendez has built a strong reputation for taking great care of his patients during that time. He works to provide a sense of community and takes time to connect with each patient on a personal level.
Patients can access diagnoses and treatments for a variety of conditions, including diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and thyroid problems. Additionally, they can access allergy testing, women’s health, and mental health services on-site. Outside of preventive and general health, individuals can receive aesthetic services, including laser hair removal, and skin rejuvenation.
Educated in the Dominican Republic, Dr. Mendez graduated with his medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine of Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo in 1990. He then relocated to the United States, performing his residency in internal medicine at St. Barnabas Hospital in New York in 1999.
Following his training, the doctor attained board certification in internal medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Internal medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Physicians specializing in internal medicine are called internists. They manage and prevent common and complex diseases by providing comprehensive care and promoting overall well-being.
In honor of his 30+ year clinical expertise, Dr. Mendez has been the recipient of Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2012, 2013, 2015) and Patients’ Choice Award (2013).
During the Covid-19 nationwide pandemic in 2020-2021, Dr. Mendez treated thousands of Covid-19-positive patients. Dr. Mendez was there for his community when these patients were being turned away by other healthcare facilities. He also visited local communities, TV, and radio stations, conducting interviews to discuss and raise awareness about Covid-19. For this, the Christian community recognized Dr. Leovares Mendez with the Dia De La Hispanidad Award on October 17, 2021, for his contribution to the community during the nationwide crisis.
