Get to know Psychiatrist Dr. Abdulhafiz A. Ahmed, who serves patients in Aberdeen, Maryland.

Dr. Ahmed is a respected, board-certified psychiatrist with over 20 years of competent, experienced psychiatric care in the United States of America. He is the Owner & Operator of Zainub Telepsychiatry in Aberdeen, Maryland.

Utilizing a variety of techniques, including therapy and medication, his practice areas include depression, schizophrenia, post-traumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, stress related disorders and family problem solving, addiction and substance abuse disorders, Buprenorphine (Suboxone) therapy, and obsessive compulsive disorder.

“I have extensive experience in addiction medicine and I have treated for the past 18 years’ persons who are addicted to drugs and alcohol. I do possess vast experience in prescribing psychotropic medications that extends over 20 years. The significance of such experience is allowing me to accurately treat patients with medications that are likely to work for them the first time eliminating trials and errors and have better outcome” expressed the doctor. 

He also has substantial experience in telepsychiatry, a video conferencing treatment model where patients are seen via encrypted web pages that are confidential and HIPPA compliant. Telepsychiatry provides a convenient way to reach patients that otherwise cannot be reached easily and helps improve compliance with treatment, eliminates missing appointments, helps the clinic achieve maximum attendance, and ultimately improves treatment outcomes.

Graduating with his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine in 1995, Dr. Ahmed went on to further his education. He performed his residency in psychiatry and fellowship at the University of Maryland Medical Center in 1999 and 2000, respectively.

Following his training, he attained board certification in psychiatry through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to serving the professions of psychiatry and neurology.

In addition to seeing patients at his private practice, Dr. Ahmed works within the Department of Psychiatry at MedStar Harbor Hospital, a private nonprofit, 150-bed, acute care teaching hospital in Baltimore City, Maryland. It is located on South Hanover Street along the Middle Branch of the Patapsco River in the Cherry Hill neighborhood of South Baltimore.

Achieving professional competence, he is a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (FAPA) and a member of the American Medical Association.

Psychiatry is the medical specialty devoted to the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of mental disorders. These include various maladaptations related to mood, behavior, cognition, and perceptions. Psychiatrists evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. They conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations, develop treatment plans, prescribe medication, and evaluate treatment results.
