Get to know Neurological Surgeon Dr. James Lindley, who serves patients in Savannah, Georgia.

With vast experience treating spinal and intracranial conditions, Dr. Lindley is a board-certified neurological surgeon at the Neurological & Spine Institute in Savannah, Georgia.

He believes that an accurate diagnosis is the most important first step in providing successful treatment. An accurate diagnosis requires spending quality time with each patient and decades of surgical experience.

Early in his career, Dr. Lindley quickly realized his passion for complex spine disorders would dominate his practice. Additional neurosurgical specialties include minimally invasive spine surgery, cervical and lumbar disc replacement, spinal deformity, degenerative disc disease, herniated disc, spinal stenosis, spine tumor, spinal cord injury, and spinal trauma.

Academically, he received his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina. He next completed his internship in general surgery and residency in neurosurgery at the Bowman Gray School of Medicine/Wake Forest University Medical Center.

Licensed to practice medicine in Georgia and South Carolina. Dr. Lindle is affiliated with Candler Hospital, Memorial Health University Medical Center, and Effingham Health System. In the past, he was Chief of Staff at Saint Joseph’s Hospital from 2007 through 2009.

His professional medical memberships include the American Medical Association, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (Fellow), the North American Spine Society, the Society of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery, the International Society of Spine Surgery, the Southern Neurosurgical Society, the American College of Surgeons (Fellow), as well as other neurological organizations. 

As a testament to his success, the doctor is board-certified neurological surgery by the American Board of Neurological Surgery (ABNS). The broad aim of the ABNS is to encourage the study, improve the practice, elevate the standards, and advance the science of neurological surgery and thereby serve the cause of public health.

With extensive experience in research, Dr. Lindley has been a principal investigator on multiple clinical investigations with Memorial Health including cervical disc replacement, lumbar facet replacement, posterior lumbar disc replacement, and cervical spinal cord trauma. He performed the first posterolateral lumbar disc replacement in the United States in 2010 in Savannah.

Neurology is a branch of medicine dealing with disorders of the nervous system. Neurologists are licensed medical specialists who diagnose and treat disorders that affect the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and muscles of patients. They examine a patient’s mental and physical status, conduct medical tests and scans, and evaluate the results to diagnose and treat the patient.

A recipient of various medical honors, Dr. Lindley received the Georgia Medical Society Health Care Heroes Award in 2011 for performing the first posterolateral lumbar disc replacement in the United States. He also received the Patients’ Choice Award in 2018.

Moreover, he has been an author on published articles, presentations and chapters on topics including degenerative cervical and lumbar spinal conditions, intracranial meningiomas, intracranial aneurysms, spinal tumors, and head injury.
