Get to know Orthopedic Surgeon and Sports Medicine Specialist Dr. Lawrence M. Shall, who serves patients in Norfolk, Virginia.

Dr. Shall is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist at ShallOrtho in Virginia Beach, Virginia. His orthopedic specialties include sports medicine, knee & shoulder surgery, and general orthopedics.

While there have been significant changes in orthopedics over the last 30 years, the largest and most important reason Dr. Shall entered medicine has not changed – his continued desire to provide his patients with the best treatments and outcomes. Opening ShallOrtho has allowed him to get back to what he most enjoys—providing quality care, time, and specialized treatments for his patients.

Originally from Ohio, Dr. Shall graduated with his undergraduate degree from Ohio State University. He then went on to earn his medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio in 1980, after which he served his internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at the Mount Sinai Medical Center. This was followed by a fellowship at The Christ Hospital in 1986.

Over thirty years ago, he moved to Virginia Beach. Since he arrived in Hampton Roads, he has had the honor to work for several years as a physician for Norfolk State University and Norfolk City schools.

Holding permanent licenses in Ohio, Virginia and North Carolina, Dr. Shall is affiliated with   Chesapeake Regional Medical Center, and Sentara Princess Anne Hospital.

A Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (FAAOS), he is board- certified in orthopedic surgery and orthopedic sports medicine by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.

At the forefront of orthopedic procedures, Dr. Shall has had his works published in many positively reviewed peer medical journals.  These include theAmerican Journal of Sports Medicine,  Journal of Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy, Contemporary Orthopedics, PT Athletic Training, Journal of Arthroplasty, and more. 

In addition to providing outstanding results for his patients, he has a proven history as an impartial IME provider and significant experience as a medical consultant for both the defendant and plaintiff.
