Dr. Cheema is a general and an interventional cardiologist who welcomes patients at Heart & Vascular Specialists in Leesburg, Virginia. In addition to his role with Heart & Vascular Specialists, he has hospital privileges at Inova hospitals, primarily Inova Loudoun Hospital in Leesburg, Virginia. Dr. Cheema is licensed to practice in the states of Virginia, Arizona, Texas, Tennessee, and Missouri.

Born and raised in Pakistan, Dr. Cheema earned his combined Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree in 2001 at Allama Iqbal Medical College in Lahore. Following his relocation to the United States, he completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Drexel College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (2004-2007). Furthermore, Dr. Cheema performed additional training via a fellowship in cardiovascular disease medicine (2011-2014) and a fellowship in interventional cardiology (2014-2015) at the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center in Memphis, Tennessee.

Subsequent to his education, the doctor attained board certification in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease medicine, and interventional cardiology through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The American Board of Internal Medicine is a 501 nonprofit, self-appointed physician-evaluation organization that certifies physicians practicing internal medicine and its subspecialties.

Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart as well as some parts of the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease and electrophysiology.

Interventional cardiology is a branch of cardiology that deals specifically with the catheter based treatment of structural heart diseases. Andreas Gruentzig is considered the father of interventional cardiology after the development of angioplasty by interventional radiologist Charles Dotter.

A Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a Fellow of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions, Dr. Cheema speaks Punjabi, Hindi, and Urdu in addition to English. Prior to his current endeavours, he served with Stern Cardiovascular Group in Memphis, tennessee.
