Dr. Newsome’s illustrious career is underpinned by a solid educational foundation, having obtained his Undergraduate Degree from Columbia University and graduating with honors from the Indiana University School of Medicine. Following his residency in anesthesiology and fellowship in pain medicine at Emory University, he remained on the faculty for three years as an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology before establishing his practice in San Diego.

A stalwart in his field, Dr. Newsome holds multiple board certifications in pain medicine, anesthesiology, adult cardiac anesthesia, and critical care medicine by the American Board of Anesthesiology, where he serves as an Associate Examiner. In addition, he is board certified in perioperative transesophageal echocardiography by the National Board of Echocardiography.

Continuously advancing his efforts, Dr. Newsome is a proud member of prestigious medical societies, including the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, the Anesthesia Service Medical Group, the California Society of Industrial Medicine and Surgery, the California Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, the San Diego Injury Network, the Scripps Physicians Medical Group, the Spinal Injection Society, and the Ximed Medical Group.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to healthcare, Dr. Newsome has garnered numerous accolades throughout his career, including Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society (1979), National Medical Fellowship Award (1979), Kaiser Foundation Award of Merit (1990), and Emory University, Anesthesiology Faculty Member of the Year (1986). He was also named Top Doctor by San Diego Magazine for over 18 years (through 2023) and California Top Doctor 2024 by Excellence in Medicine.
